Twisp River Portable Hut (Twisp/Wintrop, WA). 2008
Thisproject attempts to tread lightly on the remote site located along theupper mountainous portion of the Twisp River. The site is surrounded onthree side by National Forest and the wild Twisp River. In order toreduce impact and allow the site to continue to function within thedynamic riparian ecosystem that experience violent seasonal changesincluding heavy winter snow fall and annual spring floods, everycomponent of the project has been raised above the vegetation, usesadjustable industrial foundation supports and is either portable or canbe easily deconstruction for removal. Thus upon removal site conditionswill rapidly return to a pre-development state.
Each addition tothe site will emphasis natural features in order to increase theinhabitants appreciation and connection to the natural surroundings.Enclosed spaces will be limited to a single multi-use hut and separatestorage/toilet hut. The majority of dwelling spaces will be outdoors onraised decks and within an existing meadow. The huts have beencarefully located on the highest point of the property, situated foroptimal views up the river valley and proximity to the main outdoordwelling areas.
