Twisp River Portable Hut (Twisp/Wintrop, WA). 2008

This project attempts to tread lightly on a remote site located along the upper mountainous portion of the Twisp River. The site is surrounded on three side by National Forest and the wild Twisp River. In order to reduce impact and allow the site to continue to function within the dynamic riparian ecosystem that experiences violent seasonal changes, including heavy winter snow fall and annual spring floods, every component of the project has been raised above the vegetation, uses adjustable industrial foundation supports and is either portable or can be easily deconstruction for removal. Thus upon removal site conditions will rapidly return to a pre-development state.

Each addition to the site will emphasis natural features in order to increase the inhabitants appreciation and connection to the natural surroundings.Enclosed spaces will be limited to a single multi-use hut and separate storage/toilet hut. The majority of dwelling dwelling spaces will be outdoors on raised decks and within an existing meadow. The huts have been carefully located on the highest point of the property, situated for optimal views up the river valley and proximity to the main outdoor dwelling areas.
